When the rumors began circulating that Victoria Beckham was feuding with her new daughter-in-law, Nicola Peltz Beckham, everyone on the internet seemed all too keen to add fuel to the fire. However, in a new interview with Variety, Nicola shut down the reports as a nonstory. Still, she does have a theory regarding how the rumor got going.

According to the heiress, it all started when Nicola wore a Valentino Couture wedding gown instead of a dress designed by her mother-in-law, which she admits struck some people as fishy. However, Peltz says wearing a dress by Victoria was the original plan. “I was going to and I really wanted to, and then a few months down the line, she realized that her atelier couldn’t do it, so then I had to pick another dress,” Nicola said. “She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that.”

Her husband, Brooklyn Beckham, added, “I’ve learned they’re always going to try to write stuff like that. They’re always going to try and put people down. But everyone gets along, which is good.”

Back on August 4, Page Six reported that there was a “full-on cold war” between Nicola and Victoria. A source told the outlet that “the build-up to the wedding was horrendous” and that they “can’t stand each other and don’t talk.” According to Page Six’s anonymous insider, Peltz didn’t want her mother-in-law to have any part in the wedding planning, and there was no communication between them. The source also claimed that Victoria was peeved at her son for posting a magazine cover that referred to his bride as “the New Mrs. Beckham.”

I mean, if Nicola Peltz and Victoria Beckham really don’t get along, it’s not like they’re just going to admit that to Variety, right?
